Travers to receive purse hike if American Pharoah starts

The New York Racing Association on Saturday announced a purse increase from

$1.25 million to $1.6 million for the August 29 Travers S. (G1) is Triple Crown

champion American Pharoah (Pioneerof the Nile) starts in the 1 1/4-mile contest

at Saratoga.

The bay colt is currently at Monmouth Park preparing to compete in Sunday's

Haskell Invitational (G1), which saw its own purse jump from $1 million to $1.75

million on Wednesday.
