Turfway Park, Hawthorne cancel racing Thursday; Aqueduct

closed Friday

In anticipation of a severe winter storm that is expected to blanket the

Northeast in snow, Aqueduct canceled racing for Friday. The Jamaica, New York,

track will be closed for simulcasting as well, but is expected to reopen on

Saturday.

A winter storm caused Turfway Park and Hawthorne to cancel live racing on

Thursday.

Turfway Park canceled after a winter storm warning was issued for the

Northern Kentucky area. The weather forecast for Florence, Kentucky, calls for

one to three inches of snow, winds from the west at 13 mph, and a low of 23. The track, which installed an all-weather Polytrack surface in

September, is expected to resume racing on Friday. The facility will remain open

for simulcasting.

Hawthorne canceled its last two races on Wednesday, and will remain closed

for live racing on Thursday, due to wintry weather conditions in the Chicago area. The

forecast calls for periods of snow, with one to two inches of

snow possible. The high temperature is expected to reach 26 with a low of 16 Thursday night.
