Last updated: 3/23/10 2:30 PM

A gray colt by Unbridled's Song was purchased by Narvick International for

$475,000, leading all offerings at Monday's Barretts March Select Sale of

Two-Year-Olds in Training in Pomona, California. Wearing Hip No. 130, the

Kentucky-bred was part of the Wavertree Stables (Ciaran Dunne), agent,

consignment.

Produced by the Storm Cat mare King Shooting Star, the juvenile is from the

family of 1982 champion sprinter and blue hen Gold Beauty (Mr. Prospector), the

dam of English Horse of the Year Dayjur (Danzig) and Grade 1 winner Maplejinsky

(Nijinsky II) and the ancestress of 1994 champion older mare Sky Beauty

(Blushing Groom [Fr]) as well as Grade 1 winners Pleasant Home (Seeking the

Gold) and Tale of Ekati (Tale of the Cat).

The sales-topper sprinted one furlong in :10 at last Friday's Under Tack show,

and was previously a $225,000 Fasig-Tipton July yearling and a $175,000 RNA as a

Keeneland November weanling.

Hip 29, a dark bay colt by Stormin Fever, brought $450,000 from Demi O'Byrne.

Consigned by John O'Hara, agent, the Kentucky-bred was produced by Rainbow's End

(Siphon [Brz]) and is from the family of Grade 3 winner Lady Dom Alaric (Dom

Alaric [Fr]). The two-year-old went one furlong in :09 4/5 at the Under Tack

show, the co-fastest time at the distance.

A notable RNA on Monday was for a filly named A STORY OF REVENGE (Tale of the

Cat), who failed to meet her reserve after a final bid of $975,000. Hip 6 is a

half-sister to last year's Wood Memorial S. (G1) winner I Want Revenge (Stephen

Got Even), both having been produced by the multiple Argentinean Group 1-placed

stakes winner Meguial (Arg) (Roy).

Gross sales were virtually flat compared to last year's sale. On Monday, 69

juveniles solid for $6,225,000, a decline of one-half of 1 percent from 2009

when 51 head grossed $6,285,500. The average and median were off, however, by

26.4 and 25 percent, respectively. The mean dipped from $123,245 to $90,652,

while the median dropped from $80,000 to $60,000.
