SILVER TRAIN (Old Trieste) loves Belmont Park, having compiled all four of his
stakes wins over the track, but we like HENNY HUGHES (Hennessy) to defeat his
elder in Saturday's $400,000 Vosburgh S. (G1). Trained by Kiaran McLaughlin,
Henny Hughes will be making his third start of the year after recording
impressive victories in the King's Bishop S. (G1) and Jersey Shore Breeders' Cup
S. (G3). The chestnut colt earned BRIS Speed ratings of 110 and 108 in those
events, and we'll look for him to keep winning en route to his next appearance
in the November 4 Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1).
Silver Train is five for seven over the track, including a victory in last
year's Breeders' Cup Sprint, and he's effective at all middle distances. He'll
be in position to pounce if our top pick falters, but we'll look for the classy
four-year-old to settle for runner-up honors under regular rider Edgar Prado.
WAR FRONT (Danzig) captured the Alfred G. Vanderbilt Breeders' Cup H. (G2) two starts back and
finished second in the Forego S. (G1) last out for Allen Jerkens. The
four-year-old colt has developed nicely this season, earning triple-digit Speed
ratings in every appearance, and he's run well at Belmont (4-2-1-0), but War
Front still appears to be a cut below the top two.
ATTILA'S STORM (Forest Wildcat), who is unraced since January, will use the
Vosburgh as a prep for the Breeders' Cup Sprint. The four-year-old colt finished
fourth in last year's Sprint, his last start at Belmont, and he'll probably set
the pace here with his speed. We can't expect him to be at the top of his game
following the lengthy layoff, but Attila's Storm is a threat to hold for a small
share. WHO'S THE COWBOY (Intensity) brings a four-race winning skein into his
Belmont debut, but the New Jersey-bred will probably be overmatched at this
level.
