Went the Day Well to miss remainder of 2012
Went the Day Well, the Grade 3 Spiral Stakes winner and fourth-place finisher
in the Kentucky Derby, will miss the rest of 2012 following the detection of
bone bruising in his front ankles.
The three-year-old colt has been sent to Denali Stud in Kentucky for 60 days
of turnout in a paddock.
"He probably was suffering from this issue when he ran so poorly in the
Preakness Stakes, but it did not manifest itself for a diagnosis until he went
back into hard work," said Barry Irwin, chief executive officer of Team Valor
International. "We will look to bring him back to the races in January at
Gulfstream Park."
Trained by Graham Motion, Went the Day Well won the Spiral in his stakes
debut and rallied strongly to be beaten 2 1/2 lengths in the Derby. He finished
10th in the Preakness.
