Whisper Hill buys Plum Pretty for $4.2 million at Keeneland

Plum Pretty, who was offered as Hip No. 96, made two starts earlier this

year, winning the Apple Blossom by 2 1/4 lengths and finishing third in the

Grade 2 La Troienne at Churchill Downs on May 4. She ends her career with a mark

of

12-5-2-3, $1,688,746.

A daughter of Liszy (A.P. Indy), Plum Pretty counts as her second dam Grade 2

winner Silent Account (Private Account), a full sister to Grade 1 winner Secret

Hello and stakes winner By Your Leave. Silent Account is also a half-sister to

Grade 3-winning sire Hadif (Clever Trick) and the ancestress of Grade 3 winner

Conveyance (Indian Charlie).

"We are trying to obviously upgrade our broodmare band, and make some big

adjustments in the quality that we have," Pope said. "(Plum Pretty) is a

fantastic race mare and a very kind mare. She is very well balanced and has a

lot of size to her. I also liked her dam, who I thought was pretty and had good

size. Hopefully that will transform into the next generation of babies."

Pope said Plum Pretty will be sent to Wayne and Cathy Sweezy's Timber Town

Stable near Lexington.

"She's just a beautiful mare; classy and smart, great conformation, a classic

winner," said Frank Taylor of Taylor Made. "I thought it was a fair price. The

market is good right now; the top looks unbelievable."

Harmonious was produced by the unraced Jade Tree (Storm Cat), a half-sister

to Grade 2-placed stakes winner Megantic and three-quarter sister to multiple

Grade 1-placed Jade Queen (Giant's Causeway). All were produced by Grade 2

winner Jade Flush (Jade Hunter). Other notables from the family are the

undefeated 1982 champion juvenile filly Landaluce (Seattle Slew) and Grade 1

winner Startac (Theatrical).

Multiple Grade 1 winner ZAZU (Tapit) will head to Japan for her broodmare

career after garnering a $2.1 million bid from Katsumi Yoshida. The

four-year-old was offered as Hip 149 by Lane's End, agent for Jerry and Ann

Moss.

Stakes-placed at two, the gray enjoyed her best season in 2011, winning the

Grade 1 Lady's Secret, Grade 1 Las Virgenes and Grade 2 Hollywood Oaks. She

finished second by a neck in the Grade 1 Clement L. Hirsch, Grade 1 Santa Anita

Oaks and Grade 2 Santa Ynez, and ran third in the Kentucky Oaks.

Zazu retired earlier this year with a record of 12-4-5-1, $691,985. In her

lone appearance on the season, she finished fourth in the Grade 2 Marjorie L.

Everett Handicap at Hollywood Park on May 19.

A half-sister to stakes winner Corinthian's Jewel (Corinthian) and Group

2-placed Art Princess (Officer), Zazu was produced by the winning Mr. Greeley

mare Rhumb Line. This family has also produced Grade 3 victor Renewed (Lost

Code).

Zazu was previously sold twice at public auction, for $100,000 as a Fasig-Tipton

November weanling, and for $285,000 as a Keeneland September yearling.

Negligee, the Canadian champion juvenile filly of 2009, was consigned by

Hunter Valley Farm, agent. Hip 76 was offered in foal to Distorted Humor on a

February 21 cover.

Winner of the Grade 1 Alcibiades during her championship campaign, Negligee

also placed that season in the Ontario Debutante at Woodbine. She placed twice

in five starts at three, including the Grade 2 Sands Point, and retired with a

mark of 9-2-2-1, $381,379.

Produced by the stakes-winning Naughty Notions (Relaunch), Negligee is a

half-sister to the stakes-placed Wild Notions (Wild Again). This is the extended

of English champion miler Zilzal (Nureyev) and Grade/Group 3-winner half-sisters

Hula Queen (Irish River) and Loving Pride (Quiet American).

Negligee had been through the sales ring three times previously. She brought

$52,000 as a Keeneland September yearling, RNA'd for $37,000 as an OBS February

two-year-old, and was acquired by Hunter Valley Farm for $625,000 at the 2011

Keeneland January Sale.

At the conclusion of trading Tuesday, 100 horses sold for $27,665,000. The

average stood at $276,650 and the median was $127,500. Year-to-year comparisons

with 2011 are difficult as the opening session last year included stock

dispersed from the Estate of Edward P. Evans. The 2011 sale began with a session

that generated a gross of $63,276,500 from the sale of 147 head. The average

that day was $430,452 and the median was $230,000.
