Whywhywhy sires first winner

Last updated: 6/30/07 10:36 PM

Grade 1 hero WHYWHYWHY (Mr. Greeley) was represented by his first winner at

stud when his juvenile daughter We're in the Money captured her career debut in

the 2ND race at Charles Town on Saturday. With Gerald Almodovar in the saddle,

the Ollie Figgins-trained miss was eight lengths clear of her nearest rival at

the line, completing 4 1/2 furlongs in :54 1/5 on the fast dirt.

Trained by Patrick Biancone, Whywhywhy was a debuting second in a

maiden special weight contest at Belmont but ran off three impressive wins

following that, taking the Flash S. (G3), Sanford S. (G2) and Futurity S. (G1),

and went forth as the 5-2 choice in the 2002 Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1). An

unplaced effort in the Juvenile concluded the precocious colt's freshman

campaign, but he would place in the Swale S. (G3) the following year. The

Kentucky-bred retired with a mark of 9-3-1-1 and a bankroll of $315,015.

Whywhywhy is out of the winning Thorough Fair (Quiet American) and was

followed in stakes glory by his half-brother Spellbinder (Tale of the Cat),

winner of last year's San Antonio H. (G2) and Berkeley H. (G3). Thorough Fair has

produced an unraced two-year-old filly named Vin Diva (Vindication) and an

unnamed yearling colt by Giant's Causeway.

The seven-year-old stallion stands at Gainesway Farm near Lexington,

Kentucky, for a fee of $7,500.
