Wildcat Heir weanling tops opening session at OBS

A colt by Wildcat Heir sold for the top price of $120,000 to Ben Perkins at

Monday's opening session of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's Fall Mixed Sale.

Consigned by Crowe's Nest Farm (Joanne Crowe), agent, the chestnut colt is the

third foal out of Unbridled Treasure (Unbridled's Song), who is a

half-sister to 2007 Phoenix (Ire-G1) and Moyglare Stud S. (Ire-G1) heroine

Saoirse Abu (Mr. Greeley).

The Florida-bred colt, who is named FUTURE COVENANT, was cataloged as Hip No.

285.

JOAN JOAN JOAN (Touch Gold) was the top-priced mare, bringing $82,000 from

Matt Lyons, agent. The six-year-old mare, who is pregnant on a March 24 cover to

Street Cry (Ire), was consigned by Journeyman Bloodstock (Brent and Crystal

Fernung), agent. She was cataloged as Hip 38.

A winner at three, Joan Joan Joan is out of English stakes-placed winner

Moonflute (The Minstrel) and is a half-sister to 2006 Acomb S. (Eng-G3) winner

Big Timer (Street Cry [Ire]) as well as stakes-placed Reed (Woodman) and Spice

Guy (Silver Hawk).

On Monday, the sales company reported 127 horses sold for $3,578,500, a

decrease of 26.6 percent compared to the same session last year when 216 horses

sold for $4,870,000. The average price, however, increased 25 percent, from

$22,546 to $28,177. The buyback percentage was 50.9 percent compared to 30

percent a year ago.

The second and final consignor preferred session will take place on Tuesday,

beginning at 11 a.m. (EDT), with the OBS Fall Mixed Open sale running from

Wednesday to Friday.
