Yellowstone tops second Tattersalls session

Dubai Carnival prospects dominated Tuesday's second session of the

Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale in Newmarket, with YELLOWSTONE (Ire)

(Rock of Gibraltar [Ire]) coming close to setting a new record price when

selling for 520,000 guineas. Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith and Sue Magnier's

three-year-old colt was just 10,000gns shy of the European male

horse-in-training record.

A late addition to the sale, Yellowstone went through the ring as Hip No.

634, and Lambourn trainer Stan Moore, acting for Dubai-based patron Fitri Hay,

fought off agent Gordian Troeller, who was taking instructions from

California-based trainer Bob Hess.

"He'll go to the Dubai Carnival, and many other places hopefully," said

Moore. "He's a worldwide campaigner, and that's what you need in this day and

age. Horses like him don't come on the market, and you have to pay the price.

Hopefully he'll do as well for me as he has done for Aidan (O'Brien)."

Under the tutelage of O'Brien, Yellowstone captured the Gordon S.

(Eng-G3) and was the runner-up in the Great Voltigeur S. (Eng-G2). The son of

Love and Affection (Exclusive Era) was a 60,000gns Tattersalls October Yearling

purchase.

The three-year-old gelding COEUR DE LIONNE (Invincible Spirit) was also

bought as a Dubai Carnival prospect, selling for 350,000gns to agent David

Metcalfe with Anthony Stroud the underbidder.

"He's for the Lamprell Partnership, who are based in Dubai, and they were

looking for a nice horse to run at the Carnival," Metcalfe said. "He'll be

trained in Newmarket by Ed Dunlop, and was a good-looking horse that vetted

well."

Also heading to Dubai's Carnival is Ballymacoll Stud's smart handicapper

GREEK WELL (Sadler's Wells), for whom David Loder paid 220,000gns to outbid jump

conditioner Howard Johnson.

Dual Goodwood handicap winner HARRY TRICKER (Hernando [Fr]) changed hands for

220,000gns when knocked down to agent Paul Webber.

"He'll probably be continuing on the flat for the time being, but I can't say

a lot more about where he's going," Webber said.

Johnson was again the underbidder. A frustrating day for Johnson and his main

patron, Sage software tycoon Graham Wylie, continued when they underbid for

SAGREDO (Diesis [GB]), who made 310,000gns. The three-year-old was bought by

Timmy Hyde for top jump owner J.P. McManus to join Jonjo O'Neill's stable.
