Hallowed Dream closes with a rush in Yerba Buena

Gary Tanaka's HALLOWED DREAM (Ire) (Alhaarth) surged to the front with a sharp four-wide run and held off a stubborn Sky Dreams (Sky Classic) en route to a 1 1/4-length tally in the $125,625 Yerba Buena Breeders' Cup H. (G3) at Golden Gate on Sunday. Trained by Ben Cecil, the four-year-old filly rated in mid-pack early before unleashing her potent kick turning for home, eventually completing the 1 1/8 miles in 1:47 3/5 over the firm turf. The 9-2 shot, piloted by Dennis Carr, rewarded her backers with mutuels of $11, $6.60 and $4.60 while topping the $78.10 exacta ($1), $392.50 trifecta ($1) and $1,898 superfecta ($1) at 9-2.

Sky Dreams raced slightly off the pacesetters early and was very game in the lane while finishing second at 17-1. The five-year-old mare paid $13 and $6.80 for the place. Dreams Come True (Fr) (Zafonic) made a belated but non-threatening run to garner third honors at odds of 6-1. Show was worth $5.80. Strong Faith (Pioneering) was next and trailed by pacemaker Eleanor Rose (In Excess [Ire]), Dream Lady (Old Trieste), Midwife (Family Calling), Marla Bay (Skip Away), Secret Corsage (Lost Soldier) and Papillon Rogue (Chi) (Golden Voyager). Dream's (Chi) (Sam M.) was withdrawn.

Hallowed Dream reeled off her fourth consecutive win to up her career line to 16-4-4-1, $302,448. This was the first black type score for the bay, who also placed in the Oaks d'Italia (Ity-G1) and Pretty Polly S.

Bred in Ireland by Paul Ronan, the winner was produced from the unraced Salul (Soviet Star).
