Autumn Mixed Sale begins Thursday
Baden-Baden's three-day Autumn Mixed Sale gets underway today at the center
of the Racing and Sales Festival. Among BBAG's 489-strong catalog are foals,
yearlings and two-year-olds, as well as horses in and out of training and
broodmares. The list of vendors includes Con Marnane's Bansha House Stables, now
a regular here and leading stud operations Gestut Auenquelle, Brummerhof and
Etzean as well as Elite and Graditz.
Sires represented include the established domestic stalwarts Big Shuffle,
Dashing Blade, Lomitas (GB), Platini and Tiger Hill, alongside the still
unproven Black Sam Bellamy, Next Desert, Ransom o'War, Royal Dragon, Samum and
Sholokhov.
While last year's edition failed to match the high of 2005, when a new record
was set with the sale of Dalicia (Ger) (Acatenango) for 400,000, the exploits of
German-bred runners around the globe continues to draw the focus to these
auctions. High-profile graduates include last year's New York Breeders' Cup H.
(G2) winner Noble Stella, while this season Prix Maurice de Nieuil (Fr-G2) and
International Bosphorus Cup hero Bussoni (Goofalik) as well as Europa Meile
(Ger-G2) and Hamburger Meile (Ger-G3) scorer Konig Turf (Big Shuffle) have
advertised this sale after being bought for a total of 29,000.
This catalog features a clutch of relatives to group winners, most notably
Brummerhof's Hip 404, a Tiger Hill yearling half-sister to Champagne S. (Eng-G2)
winner McCartney (In the Wings [GB]). Other lots to note include Wilhelm's
Jackson's Hip 38, a foal half-brother by Noroit to last year's German One
Thousand Guineas (Ger-G1) heroine Lolita (Ger) (Lavirco); Eva Quick's Hip
256, a yearling colt by Law Society out of a listed-placed half-sister to this
year's Deutschlandpreis (Ger-G1) third and Rheinland-Pokal (Ger-G1) runner-up
First Stream (Lomitas [GB]).
Selling begins Thursday. Catalog and updates are available at
