Behaving Badly calls it a career

Grade 1 heroine BEHAVING BADLY (Pioneering), who wound up fourth as the 4-5

favorite in Saturday's Thoroughbred Club of America S. (G3) at Keeneland, has

been retired. The five-year-old mare had been considered possible for the

November 4 Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1).

"I retired her," trainer Bob Baffert said on Sunday. "That was it. We left

her in Kentucky. She's getting older and she's always had little things that

bugged her, and I just didn't want to press it any more. There really was

nothing left for her to do."

Sporting the colors of Patti and Hal Earnhardt III, the New York-bred

compiled a record of 13-9-2-0 with $749,224 in earnings. Behaving Badly enjoyed

her most successful year in 2006, garnering the Santa Monica H. (G1), Las Flores

H. (G3) and Bug Brush S. at Santa Anita, the Genuine Risk Breeders' Cup H. (G2)

at Belmont Park and her second straight score in the Rancho Bernardo H. (G3) at

Del Mar. In addition, she finished second in the Humana Distaff H. (G1) on

Kentucky Derby (G1) Day at Churchill Downs.

Behaving Badly will enter the breeding shed in the spring, and Baffert

offered a thought regarding the choice of stallion.
