Cyberknife fended off all challengers to win Saturday’s Arkansas Derby (G1) at Oaklawn Park, stamping his credentials as a Kentucky Derby (G1) contender.

Four decades after sending out champion Althea to conquer males in the 1984 Arkansas Derby (G1), Hall of Famer D. Wayne Lukas looks to make history again with the filly Secret Oath in Saturday’s $1.25 million renewal at Oaklawn Park.

The field for Saturday’s $1 million Rebel (G2) gives a sense of déjà vu, with the top five from the Southwest (G3) reuniting over the same 1 1/16-mile circuit at Oaklawn Park. But the result might not be the same.

The top five finishers from the Jan. 29 Southwest (G3) – Newgrange, Barber Road, Ben Diesel, Kavod, and Dash Attack – renew rivalry in Saturday’s Rebel (G2) over the same 1 1/16-mile trip at Oaklawn Park.

With formlines converging from different circuits, Saturday’s $750,000 Southwest S. (G3) will offer clues reverberating beyond the Oaklawn Park Road to the Kentucky Derby.
