Breeders' Cup hopefuls work from coast-to-coast

Saratoga Breeders' Cup H. (G2) hero SUAVE (A. P. Indy), second in the Jockey

Club Gold Cup S. (G1) most recently, went five-eighths in 1:01 3/5 over

Churchill Downs' good track on Sunday. The

four-year-old is expected to contest the Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) on Saturday.

"I thought he worked really well," trainer Paul McGee said. "He's ready."

Suave showed his versatility when winning the Saratoga Breeders' Cup in

wire-to-wire fashion before returning to rally from off the pace in the Jockey

Club.

"It's nice having a horse that can adapt to any scenario, but I think he's a

little better when he makes the lead," McGee said. "Not too many horses have

passed him. His heart gets pretty big when he's on the lead."

Suave will have Edgar Prado aboard for the Classic and is scheduled on a

flight to New York Tuesday.

Grade 2 winner and Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1) hopeful BATTLE WON (Honour and

Glory) sizzled a half-mile under Jordan Charkudian in a bullet :47 for conditioner Chuck Simon.

"He worked great and finished up strong," Simone said. "The track was good

and it started raining about 10 to 15 minutes before he worked, so we got it in

the nick of time."

Breeders' Cup Mile (G1) defending champion SINGLETARY (Sultry Song) breezed

five panels in 1:02 3/5 on Sunday over the fast dirt at Hollywood Park. The bay

five-year-old captured the Oak Tree Breeders' Cup Mile S. (G2) in his last prep

for Saturday's championship day.

"I'm very happy with him," trainer Don Chatlos Jr. said. "He's flying on

Tuesday morning to New York."

Chatlos put his charge on a diet after he ran seventh in the Frank E. Kilroe

Mile H. (G1) in his first start back this year.

"It was well documented that when he ran in the Frank Kilroe he looked much

heavier than the other horses in the paddock. Since then, we've changed his diet

and really kept the weight off. He's a horse that gets heavy fast. He's leaner

than he was a year ago and because of that, he's much stronger. He's never

looked this good."

Vosburgh S. (G1) winner TASTE OF PARADISE (Conquistador Cielo) breezed

five-eighths in 1:00 4/5, the second fastest of 32 works at that distance. The

Gary Mandella charge earned a berth in the Sprint after

taking the Vosburgh over Belmont's track and will ship to New York on Tuesday.

"I feel good about his effort in the Vosburgh and I'm hoping we draw a

similar post," Mandella said. "I'd love to break from post nine through the 11.

Hopefully, all the speed will be drawn inside of him; I don't want any speed

horses cutting over in front of him."

Del Mar H. (G2) hero LEPRECHAUN KID (Alphabet Soup) breezed five furlongs in

1:03 2/5 in advance of the Turf. The Mike Mitchell trainee

finished third but was placed second via disqualification in the Clement L.

Hirsch Turf Championship S. (G1) last out.
