Rock Hard Ten changes plans; High Fly, Motivator out
The shipping schedule for
Santa Anita H. (G1) winner ROCK HARD TEN (Kris S.), one of the favorites for the October 29 Breeders' Cup Classic (G1), has been changed due to a small bruise on the four-year-old's left front hoof. Trainer Richard Mandella noticed the bruise following Rock Hard Ten's work on Thursday, when he drilled seven furlongs in 1:25 3/5 at Santa Anita. "He came out of the work with a small bruise," Mandella said. "We pulled the shoe, soaked the foot, and put on a poultice. (The bruise) has not interfered with our progress. He is responding very well." Rock Hard Ten, originally scheduled to fly to New York from his California base on Sunday, has been booked on a Wednesday flight. He was on the track Saturday and galloped without the shoe, and will get a new shoe on Monday. Also on Saturday, the Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1) and Breeders' Cup Turf (G1) lost runners when HIGH FLY (Atticus) and MOTIVATOR (Montjeu [Ire]) were withdrawn from consideration.

Grade 1 winner High Fly suffered a non-displaced condylar fracture of his
right front leg while working a half-mile from the gate in :48 for trainer Nick Zito
on Belmont Park's muddy main track. He was preparing for the Sprint.
"It's similar to the one Afleet Alex (Northern Afleet) had," Zito said. "We
are sending him to the New Jersey Equine Clinic (on Sunday) morning. It is a
non-displaced fracture. It didn't go all the way through. We're optimistic he'll
be back next year.
"It's a real shame. He was going really good."
Jockey Jerry Bailey had the call on High Fly and will now ride ROMAN RULER (Fusaichi Pegasus)
in the Sprint.
Multiple Group 1 winner MOTIVATOR (Montjeu [Ire]) is out of the Turf after
returning lame in his off-hind leg from a Newmarket gallop on
Saturday. Winner of the Epsom Derby (Eng-G1), the sophomore has been retired and
will begin stallion duties at Royal Stud in England.
