Cape Town filly brings $240,000

A filly by Cape Town, Hip No. 301, brought the top price of $240,000 from

John Brocklebank, agent, at Tuesday's California October Yearling Sale in

Pomona, California. The dark bay filly is a full sister to stakes winner Race

for Glory. The California-bred lass is out of stakes-placed Charming Gal (Slew's

Royalty), a half-sister to stakes winners Ballerina Gal (Moscow Ballet) and Reb's Natural (L'Natural).

The sale topper was consigned by Havens Bloodstock Agency, agent.

Hip 227, CHEROKEE KID (Yonaguska), was the top-priced colt, selling for

$150,000 to Peter Pappas. Consigned by Lov Acres, agent, the dark bay

California-bred is out of multiple stakes-placed Thelma Jean (Green Dancer), a

half-sister to 1996 Beaumont S. (G2) winner Golden Gale (Summer Squall) and two

other black-type horses.

A total of 171 yearlings sold for $4,336,900, a decline of 17.2 percent

compared to last year's inaugural sale when 207 yearlings realized a total of

$5,239,400. The average price increased slightly from $25,311 to $25,362, while

the median price fell 5.9 percent from $17,000 to $16,000.
