Cockney Rebel exits Royal Ascot run with fractured pelvis

Multiple Group 1 winner COCKNEY REBEL (Val Royal [Fr]) was reported to have

sustained a fracture of his pelvis during his fifth-place effort in Tuesday's St

James's Palace S. (Eng-G1) at Royal Ascot.

The English (Eng-G1) and Irish (Ire-G1) Two Thousand Guineas winner was sent

off the even-money favorite for the one-mile contest, but failed to hit the

board after drifting left in the closing stages. After the initial prognosis of

a pulled muscle on Wednesday morning, a later scan revealed that Cockney Rebel

had suffered a more serious injury.

"We got him to the surgery this morning and gave him a scan which showed the

fracture," trainer Geoff Huffer told PA Sport. "It's not life-threatening, but

that's racing I'm afraid. It's too early to say, but he could be out for a month

or two. He will have the best treatment any horse can have and will be brought

back as good as ever -- if not better."
