First winner for Empire Maker

Classic winner EMPIRE MAKER (Unbridled) was represented by his first winner

as a freshman sire on Monday when his two-year-old daughter Miss Red Delicious

won the 9TH race at Colonial Downs. The Mark Hubley trainee, who finished

seventh in her debut at Keeneland, swept to the lead turning for home, then drew

off to a 13 1/2-length victory, completing the 5 1/2-furlong distance in 1:04

2/5 under jockey Nick Santagata. Miss Red Delicious was bred in Kentucky by her

owner, Katierich Stables.

A multiple Grade 1 winner of $1,985,800, Empire Maker won or placed in seven

stakes races -- six graded -- during his eight-race career. At three, Empire

Maker won the Florida Derby (G1) and Wood Memorial (G1) before finishing second

in the Kentucky Derby (G1). The dark bay rebounded with a victory in the Belmont

S. (G1) and closed out his career with a runner-up effort in the Jim Dandy S.

(G2).

Out of Grade 1 winner and 2002 Broodmare of the Year Toussaud (El Gran

Senor), Empire Maker is a half-brother to 2000 Arlington Million (G1) winner

Chester House (Mr. Prospector), 2000 Santa Monica H. (G1) heroine Honest Lady

(Seattle Slew), 2002 Secretariat S. (G1) winner Chiselling (Woodman), and 2002

Frank E. Kilroe Mile H. (G2) winner Decarchy (Distant View).

The seven-year-old stallion stands at Juddmonte Farms near Lexington,

Kentucky, for $100,000 live foal.
