Colonel John tunes up for CashCall Futurity
Three juveniles turned in their final major workouts on Monday in advance of the $750,000 CashCall Futurity (G1), Saturday's closing day feature at Hollywood Park. Real Quiet S. winner COLONEL JOHN (Tiznow) breezed five furlongs in :59 on Cushion Track at Hollywood Park. The move was the fourth-fastest of 58 works at the distance. Trained by Eoin Harty, Colonel John could go postward as the favorite in 1 1/16-mile CashCall Futurity. After finishing a close second in his debut at Del Mar, the bay colt broke his maiden by 4 1/2 lengths going seven furlongs in 1:21 2/5 at Oak Tree, then drew off to a convincing three-length score in the 1 1/16-mile Real Quiet on November 18 at Hollywood Park. Corey Nakatani is expected to retain the mount. Hollywood Prevue S. (G3) runner-up INTO MISCHIEF (Harlan's Holiday) breezed five furlongs in 1:02 3/5. The Richard Mandella trainee broke his maiden by 2 1/2 lengths in his debut at Oak Tree, then battled gamely before finishing second to MASSIVE DRAMA (Kafwain) in the seven-furlong Hollywood Prevue on November 22. Victor Espinoza has the call. TRES BORRACHOS (Ecton Park) worked five furlongs in 1:01 4/5 for conditioner Beau Greeley. The bay gelding broke his maiden over this track and trip in his last start.
