Heavenly Sunday went right to the front in Friday’s Edgewood Stakes (G2) at Churchill Downs and never looked back, recording a three-quarter-length score.

Going into Friday’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1), Meditate ranked as the class of the field and accordingly the 2.04-1 favorite. But the Aidan O’Brien filly had to defy a couple of historical trends.

Santa Anita’s Grade 3 events for turf juveniles on Sunday produced Breeders’ Cup contenders, as heavy favorites Packs a Wahlop and Comanche Country remained unbeaten on the Southern California circuit.

Odds-on favorites were upended in both of Del Mar’s graded stakes on Saturday. And Tell Me Nolies nailed the 7-10 Home Cooking in the Del Mar Debutante, and Avenue de France beat 1-2 choice Going Global to the punch in the John C. Mabee.
