Garcia out with broken collarbone

Jockey Alan Garcia was sent to the Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch,

New Jersey, on Sunday after being unseated from his mount in the 4TH race at

Monmouth Park. Precautionary X-rays revealed he suffered a broken collarbone

from the spill.

"He has a fractured right clavicle," said Dr. Angelo Chinnici, medical

director for the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority. "He'll miss four to

six weeks."

Garcia was aboard Fire When Ready (Golden Missile) in the 4TH race on the

card. The pair were traveling on the outside in the stretch when a chain

reaction bumping incident caused Fire When Ready to lose her footing and unseat

Garcia. The incident started when Diaphanous (Unbridle) with Stewart Elliott

bumped Abyssinian Cat (Western Cat), who in turn bumped Don'tcussthefiddle

(Theatrical [Ire]). That one then collided with Fire When Ready. Diaphonous

finished seventh but was disqualified and placed last in the 10-horse field.

Fire When Ready wasn't hurt in the mishap.
