GOLD MIRAGE (Unbridled's Song), Hip 2801, was sold to Gainesway for $60,000

while in foal to Kodiak Kowboy on a May 2 cover. The six-year-old mare, whose

first foal is a weanling filly by Southern Image, came from the consignment of

Vinery, agent.

The unraced Gold Mirage is a half-sister to Grade 3-placed stakes winner

Desert Gold (Seeking the Gold), the dam of undefeated Fillies' Mile (Eng-G1)

heroine and Cartier Award nominee White Moonstone (Dynaformer). Another

half-sister to Gold Mirage, the winning Kalahari Cat (Cape Town), is the dam of

recent Nashua S. (G2) third Quality Council (Elusive Quality).

Gold Mirage was produced by Desert Stormette (Storm Cat), a winning full

sister to Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1) star and graded stakes producer Desert

Stormer.

Also fetching $60,000 was the session's top weanling, a daughter of Kitten's

Joy, who went to Hill 'n' Dale Bloodstock. Cataloged as Hip 2920, the gray filly

was offered by Ramsey Farm, agent.

The March 28 foal is a half-sister to stakes winners Lights of Broadway (Catienus)

and Kathern's Cat (Catienus). They are all out of the winning Rubiano mare On

Broadway, and their second dam is Grade 2 scorer Box Office Gold (Dixieland

Band).

The sale's downward trend continued across all categories on Monday. During

the eighth session, 260 horses brought a total of $3,795,800, a 22.6 percent

decline from the $4,902,600 realized by 241 head at the comparable session one

year ago. The average dropped 28.2 percent, from $20,343 to $14,599, while the

$12,000 median witnessed a relatively gentler dip of 7.7 percent from the

$13,000 posted last year.

Cumulatively so far, 1,924 horses have changed hands for $136,145,600. The

gross is down 9.4 percent from 2009, when $150,359,400 was raked in by 1,786

horses. The $70,762 average and $30,000 median have decreased 15.9 percent and

23.1 percent, respectively, from the $84,188 average and $39,000 median recorded

at this point a year ago.
