Ghostzapper's stud fee set at $200,000

Reigning Horse of the Year GHOSTZAPPER (Awesome Again) will stand his first

season at stud for a fee of $200,000 at Frank Stronach's Adena Springs Farm near

Midway, Kentucky. The fee is thought to be a record for a first-year stallion

and easily surpasses the first-year fee of $150,000 for Fusaichi Pegasus in

2001.

In his only start this year, Ghostzapper rolled to a 6 1/4-length victory in

the one-mile Metropolitan H. (G1) on Memorial Day at Belmont Park. He was

retired shortly thereafter following the discovery of a small hairline fracture

in a sesamoid bone in his left front ankle. The five-year-old won nine of 11

starts and earned $3,446,120.

In 2004, Ghostzapper was undefeated in four starts. He began the season with

a 4 1/4-length score in the Tom Fool H. (G2), then captured the Philip H. Iselin

Breeders' Cup H. (G3) and Woodward S. (G1), before winning the Breeders' Cup

Classic (G1) in stakes- and track-record time at Lone Star Park. At three, he

won the Vosburgh S. (G1) and finished third in the King's Bishop S. (G1).

Ghostzapper, out of the stakes winning Relaunch mare Baby Zip, is a

half-brother to Grade 1 winner and successful freshman sire City Zip (Carson

City).
