Former Canadian Horse of the Year Moira, who ran well in defeat in the past two runnings of the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf (G1), made it third time lucky in Saturday’s renewal at Del Mar.

CJ Thoroughbreds’ Hang the Moon is getting the hang of pulling upsets in major turf races.

Saturday’s John C. Mabee (G2) was supposed to be a showdown between Didia and Anisette, but the Phil D’Amato-trained Hang the Moon jumped up at odds of 20.50-1 at Del Mar.

Monday’s Gun Runner S. and Untapable S. at Fair Grounds – respectively on the Road to the Kentucky Derby and Oaks – served as rebound spots for juveniles coming off graded stakes losses at Churchill Downs.

Monday’s fantastic 13-race card at Fair Grounds encompasses nine stakes, including the first two scoring races on the New Orleans Road to the Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks.
