Inglis Premier Sale breaks records
The final session of Inglis' Premier Sale (Session 1)
at Oaklands concluded on a high note with new records established in average,
gross and top price. A filly by King's Best out of the Sadler's Wells mare Rose
of Tralee realized a record price of A$570,000. Consigned by Brooklyn
Lodge, Lot No. 324 was purchased by Graeme Rogerson, who purchased the bay's dam for
$A500,000 at the 1997 Easter Sale.
Rogerson retained part ownership in Rose
of Tralee throughout her racing career. The mare recently was sold, in foal to Redoute's Choice, to Cambridge Stud in New Zealand. The filly is a half
sister to VRC Oaks (Aus-G1) heroine Serenade Rose (Stravinsky).
"I think she's
great value for the money -- especially if Serenade Rose wins the Australian Guineas
([Aus-G1] Saturday)," said Rogerson. "We're back in the family now and I think
she's going to be a good filly."
Leading the colts, Lot 475 reeled in top price of $A320,000 from Woodlands
Stud. Out of the Group 3-winning mare Apple Danish (Danehill), the bay was consigned by Goulburn Park.
Overall, session
figures for average and median rose 25 percent over the comparable session from
one year ago, while gross increased by eight percent from 2005.
"The demand was
exceptionally strong (Monday) with a clearance rate of over 85 percent," said Inglis Director Peter Heagney. "With last year's sale setting records in all
areas, it was always going to be a hard act to follow, so the outstanding
success of this year's sale is a credit to the wonderful job done by all the
vendors."
Inglis' Premier Sale (Session 2) concludes Tuesday.
