Shore S. (G3) and humbled his opponents in the final three-eighths of a

mile, winning the seven-furlong test by five lengths over the fast main track at

Aqueduct. Trained by Steve Asmussen, the sophomore colt dueled early with Go Go Shoot

(Songandaprayer) through :22 1/5 and :45 1/5 fractions, shook clear when

roused midway on the far turn by Garrett Gomez, and reached the six-furlong mark

in 1:09 4/5 with a seven-length advantage. J Be K cruised to the finish line,

stopping the teletimer in 1:23 3/5.

"He ran great and he ran just the way the boss thought he would," assistant

trainer Toby Sheets said. "It looks like he is a sprinter or maybe a one-turn

miler."

Favored at 3-2, the dark bay colt returned $5.10, $3.50 and $2.70. Gattopardo

(Johannesburg), who was in close attendance to the early pace and persevered

nicely for second, gave back $4.30 and $2.80 for second at 7-2. It was three

lengths back to the 4-1 Jockey Ridge (Broken Vow), who paid $3.20 for show. The

exacta yielded $21.40, and the 8-3-7 trifecta was worth $66.50. Go Go Shoot finished

fourth and was followed under the wire by Magical Forest (Forest Camp), Laysh

Laysh Laysh (Whywhywhy) and Make the Point (Menifee). Double Down Vinman (Out of

Place) was scratched.

J Be K established a new track record at Saratoga when winning his 5 1/2-furlong

debut in 1:03 last August, but he headed to the sidelines afterward and wasn't

seen again until February 15 when he easily captured a six-furlong allowance at

Fair Grounds. His connections tried him at a route in the Louisiana Derby (G2),

but J Be K faltered to eighth. He now shows a 4-3-0-0 mark with $157,200 in

earnings.

Bred in Kentucky by Glory Days Breeding, J Be K is first stakes winner out of

the Grade 2-placed mare Major Wager (Valid Wager), who has also produced an

unnamed yearling colt by Speightstown. This is the same female family of Remsen

S. (G2) and Tampa Bay Derby (G3) runner-up Atoned (Repent). J Be K passed

through the sale ring twice, bringing $125,000 as a 2006 Keeneland September

yearling before selling to his current connections for $350,000

at last year's Fasig-Tipton Florida February sale.
