Kin to Rightly So goes for $155,000 at Keeneland

A Closing Argument half-sister to recent Ballerina S. (G1) scorer Rightly So

(Read the Footnotes) went to W.D. North Thoroughbreds for $155,000 at

Wednesday's 10th session of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale. The February

11 New York-bred was consigned by Burleson Farms, agent, and toured the ring as

Hip No. 2936.

A daughter of the unraced Fit Right In (Out of Place), Rightly So captured

the August 28 Ballerina at Saratoga by four lengths, stamping herself as a major

contender for the November 5 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1). Earlier,

Rightly So had captured the Bed o' Roses H. (G3), Iroquois S. and Love is

Eternal S., and placed in three other stakes including the Vagrancy H. (G2).

Her current record stands at 11-7-3-1, $480,050.

Fit Right In, a half-sister to multiple stakes winner Under Serviced (Hook

and Ladder) and the stakes-placed Don't Mind Me (Freud), is from the family of

six-time stakes winner and multiple Grade 3-placed Gallant Step (Go Step).

Kim Valerio, agent/Walnut Green Bloodstock went to $150,000 to secure a filly

from the first crop of Grade 1 winner Latent Heat. Consigned by Brandywine Farm

(Jim & Pam Robinson), agent for Liberation Farm and Brandywine, the

Kentucky-bred toured the ring as Hip 2963.

The April 21 foal was produced by Grade 3 winner Grand Charmer (Lord Avie),

the second dam of 2006 champion three-year-old filly and $2.1 million earner

Wait a While (Maria's Mon). Grand Charmer herself is a half-sister to Private

Feeling (Belong to Me), the dam of champion juvenile colt and Preakness S. (G1)

winner Lookin at Lucky (Smart Strike) and the multiple Grade 2-winning Kensei

(Mr. Greeley). Lookin at Lucky is currently favored to land champion

three-year-old colt honors with victories in the Haskell Invitational (G1) and

Rebel S. (G2) in addition to the Preakness.

The yearling filly counts as her third dam the Grade 1 winner Sharp Belle

(Native Charger) and is from the family of 1987 Irish Derby (Ire-G1) hero Sir

Harry Lewis (Alleged).

On Wednesday, 275 yearlings sold for $6,921,900, an increase of 32.4 percent

over the corresponding session a year ago when 271 head grossed $5,229,200. The

session average increased 30.4 percent, from $19,296 to $25,171, while the

median jumped 46.2 percent, from $13,000 to $19,000.

After 10 days of selling, 2,093 horses have sold for $188,672,000, a 2.2

percent increase over last year when 2,299 head had brought $184,571,800. The

cumulative average has spiked 12.3 percent, from $80,284 to $90,144, while the

median has enjoyed 25 percent bump, from $40,000 to $50,000.
