Placid Lake brings $320,000 at Fasig-Tipton
The six-year-old mare PLACID LAKE (Greenwood Lake) fetched the top bid at the
opening session of the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Winter Mixed Sale at Newtown
Paddocks in Lexington, Kentucky, on Sunday, going for $320,000 to John Lossen,
agent. The bay Florida-bred, offered as Hip No. 72, was consigned by
Hill 'n' Dale Sales, agent.
Placid Lake, who was presented as a racing/broodmare prospect, is coming off
a third-place effort in the Sunshine Millions Filly & Mare Turf,
and captured the Glendale H. at Turf Paradise in her previous outing. The bay
was produced from the stakes-winning Fortune Forty Four (Fortunate Prospect) and
counts multiple stakes victress Smoke Chaser (Smoke Glacken) as a half-sister,
and her full brother, Old Town Pond, placed in both the Affirmed and Dr. Fager divisions of the Florida Stallion S.
in 2005.
The 10-year-old mare TRICKSKI (Peteski) brought the gavel down at $285,000 to
register the second-highest price of the day. Cataloged as Hip 187, the bay miss
was consigned by Legacy Bloodstock, agent, and went to Mike Abraham, selling in
foal to Count the Time.
The stakes-placed Trickski's first foal is La Brea S. (G1) queen Dearest
Trickski (Proudest Romeo), who posted her eighth win from her last nine starts
when taking the Sunshine Millions
Filly & Mare Sprint recently. Trickski is a half-sister to stakes winners Tricky Storm (Summer of Storms) and Tricky
Band (Dixie Brass), as well as the stakes-placed Satellite Phone (Stark Ridge).
In addition to Dearest Trickski, the bay mare has produced an unraced three-year-old gelding named Faster Than Flash
(Proudest Romeo), an unnamed two-year-old filly by Snow Ridge and a yearling
colt by Freefourinternet.
During Sunday's session, 160 horses were purchased for a total of $3,274,000, up
21.7 percent from the $2,689,300 registered in 2007 when 195 head were sold. The average
showed a marked increase of 48.4 percent, from $13,791 to $20,463, while the
median rose 4.2 percent to $6,250 from $6,000 last year.
The second and final session of the sale will take place on Monday, beginning
at 11 a.m. (EST).
