Pleasantly Perfect colt brings $260,000 at OBS

Last updated: 4/19/10 7:48 PM

A colt by Pleasantly Perfect was gaveled down to Alex and Jo Ann Lieblong for

$260,000 on Monday, leading all offerings at the first session of the Ocala

Breeders' Sales Company's 2010 Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training in

Ocala, Florida. Consigned by Parrish Farms, agent, the chestnut toured the ring

as Hip No. 132.

Produced from the winning Minister Thatcher (Deputy Minister), the juvenile

counts as his second dam the Grade 2-winning stakes producer Blushing Heiress (Blushing

John), a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Really Fancy (In Reality). Blushing

Heiress and Really Fancy were produced by the Grade 2-winning Native Fancy (Our

Native), the ancestress of multiple Grade 1 winner Seventh Street (Street Cry

[Ire]). This is also the family of Grade 3 winner Militron (Marfa).

The session topper, who previously sold for $23,000 at Keeneland September,

worked a quarter-mile in :20 4/5 at last Tuesday's under tack show.

ROCKIN HEAT (Rock Hard Ten), a colt from the second crop of his Grade

1-winning sire, brought a final bid of $85,000 from Bear Stables. He was offered

as Hip 97 from the consignment of Niall Brennan Stables, agent.

Out of the multiple stakes-winning Makin Heat (Makin), who captured the 2002

Selima S., Rockin Heat hails from a rather unaccomplished family. Further back,

from another branch of the female line, however, one finds 1979 champion older

mare and graded stakes producer Waya (Fr) (Faraway Son). Waya is herself a half-sister to Grade 1-winning

producer Warfever (Fr) (Luthier) and the stakes-winning Warsaw (Bon Mot [Fr]),

the dam of French champion Walensee (Troy) and the granddam of multiple French

and English highweight Westerner (Danehill).

Rockin Heat, who failed to meet his reserve with a final bid of $95,000 at

Keeneland September, completed a quarter-mile in :21 3/5 at the under tack show.

The session's highest-priced filly was Hip 224, an Ontario-bred daughter of

Officer who sold to Robert Harvey for $80,000. She was offered by Leprechaun

Racing, agent.

Out of the multiple stakes-winning Ontheqt (Mazel Trick), who compiled a mark

of 7-3-2-1, $285,515, the filly counts as a half-sister the stakes-placed

Noticin' You (Mr. Greeley). This is the family of 1989 Canadian champion older

mare Proper Evidence (Stiff Sentence), winner of that season's Ballerina S.

(G1).

The filly has sold twice previously at auction, bringing $25,000 earlier this

year at OBS in

January and $22,000 as a yearling at Keeneland last January. She worked one furlong

in :9 4/5 at the under tack show, the co-fastest trial at the distance.

On Monday, 196 juveniles sold for $4,579,100. This represented a decline of

16.1 percent from the corresponding session a year ago when 209 head grossed

$5,457,500. The session average was off 10.5 percent, from $26,112 to $23,363.

The median, however, increased 16.1 percent, from $15,500 a year ago to $18,000

this time. The buyback percentage was 25.7 percent, compared to 24.3 percent in

2009.

The second session of the four-day auction begins Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.

(EDT). For more information, visit obssales.com.
