Second Derby Future Wager opens Thursday

Champion DECLAN'S MOON (Malibu Moon), who opened his 2005 campaign

with a two-length triumph in last Saturday's Santa Catalina S. (G2), has been

installed as the 5-1 co-favorite along with the mutuel field of "all other

three-year-olds" for the second Kentucky Derby Future Wager, which begins at

noon (EST) Thursday and runs through 6 p.m. Sunday. No other individual interest

is listed at less than 10-1 by Churchill Downs' oddsmaker Mike Battaglia.

"The mutuel field is always a strong bet in the first two pools

of the Derby Future Wager, but Declan's Moon was very impressive in winning the

Santa Catalina last weekend at Santa Anita and I think he made believers out of

a lot of people in that race," Battaglia said. "Afleet Alex (Northern Afleet)

looked very good in his three-year-old debut in the Mountain Valley at Oaklawn

Park and High Fly (Atticus) was strong in the Fountain of Youth (G2), so both

horses should get plenty of support in Pool 2. There are some interesting

newcomers."

AFLEET ALEX and HIGH FLY are both listed at 10-1, and the

unbeaten ROCKPORT HARBOR (Unbridled's Song), who is scheduled to make his first

start at three in the March 19 Rebel S. (G3), comes next at 12-1.

Five new faces have been added to the second of three pools --

DON'T GET MAD (Stephen Get Even), FUSAICHI ROCK STAR (Wild Wonder), GOLDEN SHINE

(Touch Gold), NOBLE CAUSEWAY (Giant's Causeway) and SCIPION (A.P. Indy).
