LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- After a lengthy review of the stretch run of the $750,000 Alysheba (G2) at Churchill Downs on Friday, Corporate Power retained his hard-fought neck victory over Skippylongstocking in the 1 1/16-mile test for older horses.
The pair dueled through the final furlong, exchanging mild bumps, but Corporate Power was gradually gaining control approaching the wire.
Jockey Tyler Gaffalione, aboard Skippylongstocking, claimed foul against Corporate Power and jockey Jose Ortiz for interference in deep stretch, but the stewards ultimately deemed the contact insufficient.
"We won it fair and square. There never should have been an objection," Ortiz said. "[Gaffalione] pushed out on me. I felt his hand on my shoulder. We won it fair."
"I felt like my horse got intimidated by the outside pressure and I didn't want to end up in the fence." Gaffalione said.
Corporate Power, a fine second to Touchuponastar in the New Orleans Classic (G2) in his most recent start, earned his first graded win in the Alysheba, covering the course in 1:41.82 over a fast track. The Courtlandt Farms-owned five-year-old paid $13.20.
Skippylongstocking, the Pegasus World Cup (G1) winner who saw his three-race win streak snapped, finished a half-length ahead of the favorite Baeza, who ran gallantly from the back after missing the break. It was his first start since November and his first for trainer Bill Mott, who took up training duties on Baeza following the death of John Shirreffs in February.
Completing the order of finish were East Avenue, Nu What's New, Grande, and Tappan Street.
Corporate Power has now won four of 10 starts. Originally trained by Shug McGaughey, for whom he won the restricted Sir Barton S. at Pimlico in 2024, Corporate Power missed the entirety of the 2025 season, but is now 2-for-3 since joining the barn of Steven Asmussen.
Bred in Kentucky by Stonestreet, Corporate Power is a son of two-time Horse of the Year Curlin and the Quality Road mare Road to Victory, winner of the 2017 Golden Rod (G2) at Churchill.
