at Santa Anita on Sunday, but it didn't matter

for the pint-size filly as she displayed her incredible late kick to take home

the top prize by a half-length. The Bobby Frankel trainee was content to sit at

the back as the field went through fractions of :24, : 47 4/5 and 1:12 1/5 for

the initial six furlongs of the 1 1/8-mile race. As the field approached the

turn for home, Alex Solis began to get into the mare, and the chestnut responded

in a big way, completing the grassy affair in 1:47 4/5. The six-year-old, who

was the 6-5 betting favorite, gave back $4.60, $3.60 and $2.60 while keying the

$14 exacta ($1) and $56.30 trifecta ($1).

Katdogawn (GB) (Bahhare) took a short lead in  midstretch but had no

answer for the winner, finishing a good second. The five-year-old was worth

$7.20 and $4.20 at 8-1. Valentine Dancer (In Excess [Ire]) came in third at 5-1,

paying $3.80 in the process. Hoh Buzzard (Ire) (Alhaarth) was next and followed

by Barancella (Fr) (Acatenango), Stupendous Miss (Dynaformer) and Belle Ange

(Fr) (Ganges).

Megahertz, who finished first in this race last year only to be disqualified,

moved her mark to 29-11-5-5 with earnings of $1,571,594. The lass previously

annexed the John C. Mabee H. (G1), Honeymoon Breeders' Cup H. (G2), San Gorgonio

H. (G2) and last two runnings of the Santa Barbara H. (G2), with placings in

seven graded tilts.
