Six set for Honorable Miss
A field of six fillies and mares are set to go six furlongs in Friday's
$150,000 Honorable Miss H. (G2) at Saratoga, and heading the group is recent
Princess Rooney H. (G1) winner MALIBU MINT (Malibu Moon). The
chestnut filly upset the field at 23-1 odds in that rich six-furlong test, and the four-year-old will be out to duplicate her 3 3/4-length score that
day. She'll have to tote the top weight of 118 pounds off that win with Josué Arce in the irons.
Also included in the field is EVER ELUSIVE (Forestry), who captured the
Winning Colors S. by a neck over Malibu Mint two starts back. The Todd Pletcher charge will
add blinkers off a second in the Lazer Show H. last out and will also
be getting John Velazquez back in the saddle.
The Larry Jones-trained MISS ELSIE (Golden Gear), winner of the Light Hearted
S. last out, adds more interest to the Honorable Miss. The five-year-old mare's
conditioner has been responsible for two Grade 1 victories and a Grade 2 score
on the New York circuit in the past 26 months from just seven starters.
"It's going to be a big weekend and, hopefully, we continue to get lucky,"
Jones said. "We've been overwhelmed and flabbergasted by the success we've had
(shipping to New York). We've brought the right horses up, but we've also gotten
lucky. It's not going to last forever, but both my horses are doing fantastic
and, hopefully, we can have a little more luck this weekend."
Miss Elsie will be joined on the van ride from Delaware Park by Grade 1
winner Wildcat Bettie B (Meadowlake), who is set to run in Saturday's Test S.
(G1).
The complete field for the Honorable Miss, with riders and weights, is
GRECIAN LOVER (Friendly Lover), Mike Smith, 114; Malibu Mint; REUNITED (Dixie
Union), Edgar Prado, 116; Ever Elusive, 115; STORMY KISS (Arg) (Bernstein),
Javier Castellano, 114; and Miss Elsie, Mario Pino, 115.
