Spencer bypasses Soviet Song to ride Red Evie

Jamie Spencer will ride Terry Neill's Matron S. (Ire-G1) winner RED EVIE (Intikhab)

in Saturday's Sun Chariot S. (Eng-G1) at Newmarket. Despite the presence of

Elite Racing Club's multiple Group 1 winner Soviet Song (Marju) in the mile

contest, the champion jockey will maintain his association with Red Evie and

desert the six-year-old European champion.

"It was a hard decision, but I have taken into account that Red Evie will be

staying in training and she is my one for next year, hopefully," Spencer told PA

Sport. "She did well last time out and I am looking forward to the race. I think

there is still more room for improvement -- you'd like to think there is. She

gave me a fabulous feel in Ireland, she is a really nice filly."

Matthew Budden, racing manager for the Elite Racing Club, revealed that Oscar

Urbina would renew his partnership with Soviet Song for the first time in three

years.

"He's riding well and he knows her from her early days," Budden told PA

Sport. "He's followed her career closely and he knows her as well as anyone. He

doesn't get that many chances and we are happy to give him the chance."
