Twelve set for $1 million Delaware Handicap

queen TWO TRAIL SIOUX (Indian Charlie) highlight a field of 12 distaffers

entered for Sunday's $1 million Delaware H. (G2). The 1 1/4-mile event received

a hefty purse increase from $750,000 to seven figures this year, making it the

richest event for fillies and mares other than the Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1).

Isola Piu Bella captured February's Sabin H. (G3) and enters

the Delaware for trainer Todd Pletcher off a pair of stakes wins, including a

facile score in the Obeah H. last out over the track. The classy five-year-old

mare is the 119-pound highweight. Two Trail Sioux has captured six of her last

seven starts, winning the Fleur des Lis H. (G2) most recently in front-running

fashion. The Wally Dollase charge retains the services of Pat Day.

Other contenders include last year's Acorn S. (G1) winner ISLAND SAND

(Tabasco Cat), Grade 3 heroine SILMARIL (Diamond) and the stakes-winning

SAINTLINESS (Holy Bull).

One race earlier at Delaware Park, seven sophomores will square off in the

$300,000 Leonard Richards S. (G3), and the 1 1/16-mile race has attracted

Preakness S. (G1) runner-up SCRAPPY T (Fit to Fight), Grade 2 victor HIGH LIMIT

(Maria's Mon) and Grade 3 conqueror SUN KING (Charismatic). All three are

unraced since the May 21 Preakness.

Scrappy T captured the Withers S. (G3) prior to his Preakness effort and the

Robert Bailes-trained gelding has never finished out of the money from 10 career

starts (3-5-2). High Limit, a two-time winner at Delaware Park last year, opened

this year with a victory in the Louisiana Derby (G2), finished second in the

Blue Grass (G1), unplaced in the Kentucky Derby (G1) and fifth in the Preakness.

Sun King, one of five Kentucky Derby starters for Nick Zito, was unplaced in the

Run for the Roses, but the Tampa Bay Derby (G3) winner rallied for fourth at Old

Hilltop last out.
