Two tie for top price at second OBS Open session
Two hips tied for the high price of $110,000 Wednesday at the third session
of the Ocala Breeders' Sale's Company's Open Sale of Yearlings at the OBS Sales
Complex in Ocala, Florida.
The first, Hip No. 748, is a chestnut colt by More Than Ready. Purchased by
Nick de Meric, agent, the February 2 youngster was consigned by Sugar Hill,
agent, and is out of the unraced A.P. Indy mare Pulla Surprise. The colt's
second dam is 1996 La Prevoyante H. (G2) and Long Island H. (G2) victress
Ampulla (Chief's Crown). The Kentucky-bred last sold through public auction for
$15,000 at the Keeneland November Breeding Stock sale.
The second, Hip 784, is a bay filly by Texas Glitter. Consigned by Peggy
Dellheim, agent, the February 3 miss was acquired by Speed Horse Racing. The
Florida-bred is out of the Robyn Dancer mare Robinfleir, and hails from the same
female family as multiple stakes winner and 1986 Poinsettia S. (G3) runner-up Fragrant
Princess (Diplomat Way). The filly brought a price of $19,000 at the OBS Winter
Mixed Sale.
Hip 605, a chestnut filly by WhyWhyWhy, brought the next-highest price when
selling to Hartly/De Renzo Thoroughbred for $57,000. Consigned by Riverview
Farm, agent, the April 25 yearling is out of the winning mare My Girl Rodes
(Topsider), and is a half-sister to the winning stakes-placed mare No Mo
Strawberries (Strawberry Road [Aus]). The Kentucky-bred also comes from the same
female line as 2004 Mervin H. Muiz Jr. Memorial H. (G2) winner Mystery Giver
(Dynaformer). The filly was purchased for $10,000 at the Keeneland November
Breeding Stock sale.
There were 201 yearlings which sold for a total $2,545,500 on Tuesday, up
21.9 percent from last year when 188 yearlings brought $2,087,100. Average price
increased 14.1 percent, from $11,102 to $12,664. Median price jumped 28 percent,
from $6,250 to $8,000. The buyback rate was 28.7 percent this year compared to
29.3 percent a year ago.
