Wilshire H.

Last updated: 4/24/07 6:13 PM

An inscrutable field of 10 turf distaffers will contest Hollywood Park's

opening-day program, Wednesday's $100,000 Wilshire H. (G3). Buena Vista H. (G2)

runner-up SINGALONG (GB) (Singspiel [Ire]) is one of three co-highweights at 117

pounds in the one-mile test, and the five-year-old mare rates top billing.

Singalong first appeared on Hollywood's turf in June, winning an

allowance/optional claiming event before taking the Redondo Beach S. next out,

and she made her third and last appearance over the local course in December's

Dahlia H. (G2), finishing a fast-closing third against a deep group of rivals.

The Paddy Gallagher pupil opened the year with two strong efforts going a mile

at Santa Anita, finishing second in both the Tuzla H. and Buena Vista, and we'll

throw out her last effort at nine furlongs in the Santa Ana H. (G2). A

horse-for-the-course, Singalong should prove ultra-tough under Richard Migliore.

CHARM THE GIANT (Ire) (Giant's Causeway) rallied to a game score in the

Hillsborough S. at Bay Meadows last out, and the Ron McAnally representative is

very honest at the one-mile distance (7-3-2-1). The five-year-old netted a 109

BRIS Late Pace rating last time, and she's recorded three nice works since that

start on March 24. Charm the Giant could make a serious late impact under a

117-pound impost that includes Michael Baze.

QUEMAR (NZ) (Haafiz [Ire]) will also tote 117, and the one-mile specialist

exits a sharp triumph in the American Beauty H. at Santa Anita, drawing clear to

a 1 3/4-length decision. John Court, who rode her to a win earlier this year,

will regain the mount for conditioner Roger Stein, and we have to respect the

five-year-old mare's present form.

Brazilian Group 2 winner DOUBLE TROUBLE (Brz) (Wild Event) will make her U.S.

debut under the care of Bobby Frankel. Unraced since September, the

four-year-old filly will bring a three-race win skein into the event, but she

doesn't appear to have faced the toughest rivals in her native country, winning

a maiden special weight and allowance before jumping up to a Grade 2 last time.

Double Trouble remains a threat for the top three in her first start for

Frankel.

FLIP FLOP (Fr) (Zieten) finished third in last year's Wilshire and then

headed to the sidelines for the rest of the year. The six-year-old mare hasn't

shown much in her first two starts this season, and we'll just watch to see how

she fares in her third start back off the layoff. GHURRA (War Chant) has earned

BRIS Speed ratings in the 80s in her last four starts and doesn't bring the most

promising form into her graded bow. However, the stakes-placed does owns a win

and a second in two starts over the course, so we can't completely dismiss her

from exotics consideration.

PRIVATE BANKING (Fr) (Anabaa) is eligible to improve off her seasonal bow

last time, but she hasn't been a serious factor in her last three outings.

POLYFIRST (Fr) (Poliglote [GB]) will need to turn things around following a

couple of disappointing showings for Richard Mandella. WITCH WOMAN (Awesome

Again) will likely come out winging it in her second career turf start, but the

front-running miss has class concerns at this level. SOHGOL (Ire) (Singspiel

[Ire]) will make her first start for Neil Drysdale after tailing off badly at

the end of last year, but the one-mile distance doesn't look like a good fit.
