A busy Thursday of graded-stakes action at Belmont Park included a trio of sprints that could yield contenders for the 2026 Breeders’ Cup.

*Friday update: Belmont has canceled racing this weekend due to the impending nor'easter. The stakes races are postponed to Thursday, Oct. 1.

No one would have faulted Locked for losing Saturday's $261,000 Woodward (G2), not after the field was reduced to three.

Rebel's Romance and El Cordobes will turn in their final prep for the Breeders' Cup Turf (G1) on Saturday at Aqueduct in the $500,000 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic (G1) over 1 1/2 miles.

Odds-on favorite Ways and Means sailed through Sunday’s Gallant Bloom (G2) at Aqueduct, her tune-up for the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1).

Returning to a sprint distance for Sunday’s $250,000 Vosburgh S. (G2) at Aqueduct worked wonders for Cody’s Wish, who picked up his third graded stakes win of the year in comfortable fashion.

Talent, versatility, and durability are all strong suits for Kimari, who posted a comfortable victory in Sunday’s Gallant Bloom S. (G2).
