Ten vie for BC spot in Vosburgh; R Disaster tops Gallant Bloom

What the $250,000 Vosburgh (G3) at Belmont Park on Saturday lacks in star power, it makes up for in competitiveness. A field of 10 will line up in the seven-furlong fixture, with an automatic bid to the Oct. 31 Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) at Keeneland on the line.

Bettors will likely look first toward T Kraft and Senior Officer, who dead-heated for second in last month’s Forego (G1) while three-quarters of a length adrift of the winning Hymn. Senior Officer, the approximate 3-2 favorite in the Forego while making his stakes debut, arguably has more upside.

Moonlight invades from California, where he finished an upset third in the Bing Crosby (G1) and a narrowly beaten second in the Pat O’Brien (G2). Prior to joining Peter Miller’s barn, Moonlight was based with Chris Block, for whom he captured the Cherokee Mile at Churchill Downs last November.

Crazy Mason, winless since taking the 2025 Carter (G2), was second in last year’s Vosburgh and was beaten less than a length when fourth in the aforementioned Forego. Contrary Thinking has never sprinted in stakes company, but might fit based on recent allowance form, specifically a nose loss to Senior Officer in early June.

The $250,000 Gallant Bloom, a 6 1/2-furlong dash for fillies and mares, has attracted six entries. Despite a subpar showing in the Ballerina (G1) last month, R Disaster figures tough in her title defense, especially if she were to run back to her performance in the May 2 Derby City Distaff (G1), in which she defeated Ways and Means and Usha.
