*Friday update: Belmont has canceled racing this weekend due to the impending nor'easter. The stakes races are postponed to Thursday, Oct. 1.

Iron Man Cal earned his spot in the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (G1) by wiring the Pat O’Brien (G2), and Graham Motion’s shipper Test Score booked his Turf (G1) ticket in the Del Mar H. (G2).

Dr. Venkman has been unplaced in both starts this year but has a history of finding his better self in the $250,000 Pat O’Brien (G2), one of two Breeders’ Cup Challenge preps at Del Mar on Saturday.

The Doug O’Neill-trained Listenupshance held off Maximum Bourbon in the Bing Crosby (G1), but the Breeders’ Cup Challenge race was marred by the breakdown of favored Cornucopian at Del Mar.

Just a Touch has run fast enough during his start-and-stop career to have been a stakes winner by now, perhaps multiple times over.

Kentucky Derby (G1) and Kentucky Oaks (G1) contenders took center stage on opening day of the Churchill Downs fall meet, and surprising results unfolded over a sloppy track.
