Of the five Thoroughbred Group 1 winners on Sunday’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (G1) undercard at ParisLongchamp, Friendly Soul and Ramatuelle are the likeliest to proceed to the Breeders’ Cup.

Opera Singer stole the show on the undercard with a five-length conquest of the Prix Marcel Boussac. So devastating was the Aidan O’Brien pupil that the ever-reticent jockey Ryan Moore was already talking up her chances in the 2024 Arc.

Closing day at Royal Ascot produced a bevy of surprising results, but none more stunning than the triumph of 73-1 longshot Khaadem in the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee (G1).

Champions Day concluded with major upsets. Hitherto unbeaten Baaeed could muster only fourth in his finale, as Bay Bridge returned with a vengeance in the Champion, and Bayside Boy sprang a surprise in the Queen Elizabeth II.

In addition to Alpinista in the main event, British-trained horses captured two other Group 1s on Arc Day, and the French turned their own Group 1 triple in Breeders’ Cup Challenge races.

The marquee event among six Group 1s for Thoroughbreds at ParisLongchamp, the Arc is one of five Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” races on the superb card.

The latest additions to the Breeders’ Cup Challenge series, Saturday’s Champion S. (G1) and Queen Elizabeth II S. (G1) serve up terrific clashes that promise to be the highlights of British Champions Day at Ascot.
