On a stakes-packed Sunday afternoon at Santa Anita, Newgate capped off a big day for Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert and legendary jockey Frankie Dettori, battling gamely to win the $400,000 Santa Anita H. (G1).

In addition to riding the superb Nysos in the Robert B. Lewis (G3), Flavien Prat won two other graded stakes on the Santa Anita card, both aboard mares making eagerly-awaited returns to action.

Cave Rock conquered Sunday’s $302,000 Del Mar Futurity in stakes-record time, completing the second half of a juvenile Grade 1 double for late sire Arrogate.
