The only Breeders’ Cup Challenge event at Newmarket Saturday was the Royal Lodge (G2), but the day’s top-level juvenile prizes, the Middle Park (G1) and Cheveley Park (G1) for fillies, also have implications for “Future Stars Friday” at Santa Anita.

One of the sharpest maiden winners earlier in the season, Carla’s Way took a while to make good on that debut promise, but she broke through in style in Friday’s Rockfel (G2) at Newmarket.

A tactical race in a small field proved a trap for odds-on favorite Flying Honours, but Saturday’s Royal Lodge (G2) at Newmarket suited King Power Racing’s The Foxes.

Following up on an impressive debut over the July Course, Commissioning was similarly convincing on Newmarket’s Rowley Mile in Friday’s Rockfel (G2).

While the Middle Park (G1) for colts and the companion Cheveley Park (G1) for fillies sport the Group 1 laurel, the Royal Lodge (G2) offers U.S. perks.

The Rockfel S. (G2) was the “Win and You’re In” at Newmarket Friday, but the Joel S. (G2) could also have Breeders’ Cup implications after Godolphin veteran Benbatl set a new course record.
