A pair of Grade 1 events for three-year-olds, the $300,000 Malibu and $300,000 La Brea, highlighted three dirt stakes on Tuesday’s opening day program at Santa Anita.

Juvenile star Cave Rock answered the two-turn question in the American Pharoah (G1), one of three Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” contests at Santa Anita on Saturday.

Odds-on favorites were upended in both of Del Mar’s graded stakes on Saturday. And Tell Me Nolies nailed the 7-10 Home Cooking in the Del Mar Debutante, and Avenue de France beat 1-2 choice Going Global to the punch in the John C. Mabee.

Favorites were overturned in all three stakes at Del Mar Saturday, with the biggest upset furnished by the 10.90-1 Beyond Brilliant in the $404,500 Hollywood Derby (G1).

The Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” Zenyatta S. (G2) anchored a five-stakes Sunday card at Santa Anita.

Mo Forza and United successfully defended their titles in the City of Hope Mile and John Henry Turf Championship, respectively, and Going to Vegas punched her Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf ticket in the “Win and You’re In” Rodeo Drive.

Grace Adler dominated the Del Mar Debutante (G1), longshot Liam’s Dove broke her maiden in the Del Mar Juvenile Fillies Turf, and unbeaten sophomore Flightline also grabbed attention on the Sunday card.

J. Kirk and Judy Robison bred both winners of Saturday’s Grade 2 turf features at Del Mar, None Above the Law and Going to Vegas.

If Mo Forza had been dethroned in Saturday’s $300,000 Del Mar Mile (G2), the defending champion would have had a few excuses at his disposal.
