A quartet of Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series qualifiers took place at York Racecourse in England this week. The action included three prestigious Group 1 prizes.

Ombudsman and Minnie Hauk dominated Breeders’ Cup Challenge events in different divisions at York, but chances are that they will cross swords in the Turf (G1) at Del Mar.

Despite pulling hard early in Thursday’s 1 1/2-mile Yorkshire Oaks (G1), Content had enough stamina in the closing stages to outlast You Got to Me and Emily Upjohn in this “Win and You’re In” for the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf (G1).

As he often does, trainer Aidan O'Brien entered a pacemaker in Wednesday's Juddmonte International (G1) at York, ostensibly to ensure a proper gallop for Coolmore's star three-year-old City of Troy.

Live in the Dream was easy to overlook ahead of Friday’s Nunthorpe (G1) at York, having never won a black-type race, and representing connections who’d yet to have a Group winner. But the front-running longshot grabbed all the attention from the start.

A subpar fifth behind favored stablemate Savethelastdance in the Irish Oaks (G1) in a Curragh bog, Coolmore homebred Warm Heart turned the tables on much quicker ground in Thursday’s Yorkshire Oaks (G1).

Wheeling back 12 days after taking the Prix Maurice de Gheest (G1), and shortening up to five furlongs, were no problem for Highfield Princess, who turned a quick Group 1 double in Friday’s Nunthorpe (G1) at York.

After sweeping a trio of major races in Germany, and returning triumphant in France’s Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud (G1), Alpinista collected her first Group 1 on home soil in Thursday’s Yorkshire Oaks (G1).

All-conquering at a mile, Baaeed ventures up in trip for the first time in Wednesday’s Juddmonte International (G1) at about 1 5/16 miles at York. The feature on opening day of the Ebor Festival is one of three Breeders’ Cup Challenge events at the meeting.

Wesley Ward’s Golden Pal blasted to the front early in Friday’s Nunthorpe S. (G1) at York, but by halfway, speedy sophomore filly Winter Power was already grabbing the free ticket to the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (G1).

Dual classic romper Snowfall added a third major to her resume in Thursday’s Yorkshire Oaks (G1), solidifying favoritism for the Oct. 3 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (G1).

The three-year-old Snowfall won only once in seven starts as a juvenile, but in three starts this year has laid claim to being the best filly in Europe. On Thursday, she will be a short-priced favorite to defeat older rivals for the first time in the Yorkshire Oaks (G1) on day two of York's Ebor Festival.
