At Del Mar on Sunday, Heywoods Beach dethroned 9-10 favorite Tizamagician in the Cougar II (G3), and Irideo pulled a $65 upset in the Wickerr S. after the big scratch of Smooth Like Strait.

The $125,000 Cougar II (G3) is Del Mar’s Sunday feature, but the real headline act comes one race later in the $100,000 Wickerr S.

Breeders’ Cup Saturday kicked off with a pair of rich undercard stakes featuring some of the most accomplished non-Breeders’ Cup starters in the country.

Jockey Flavien Prat won both stakes on the Sunday card at Del Mar, guiding favorites with tactical speed on dirt and turf.

A pair of Grade 1 events, the $1 million Metropolitan H. and $500,000 Ogden Phipps S., highlight a trio of graded stakes on the main track for older horses on Saturday’s Belmont Stakes Day undercard.
